CPA Ireland Annual Conference 2019: On the Frontier of Accounting

The theme of this year’s CPA Ireland Annual Conference is, ‘On the Frontier of Accounting’. The event, taking place at the Radisson Hotel, Little Island in Cork on Friday 24th May 2019 will recognise the unique contribution that accountants have made to making Ireland’s prosperity a reality.

The Conference will celebrate the growing tradition of entrepreneurship in Ireland. Delegates will get to hear from and interact with, some of Ireland most successful entrepreneurs, sharing how they built their companies from idea stage to international recognition. More than any time in our history, Ireland faces an uncertain future. Brexit, combined with being a small open economy, mean future Irish prosperity will almost certainly be as a result of indigenous Irish businesses, especially in the SME sector.

The Conference Chaired by RTE broadcaster John Creedon will begin with a welcoming address by CPA Ireland President Gearoid O’ Driscoll. Dr Declan Jordan, Senior Lecturer in Economics at University College Cork will then speak on the topic that is on the mind of every business leader at present, Brexit. Dr Jordan’s contribution will focus on the challenges and opportunities in a post Brexit world. Pedro Angulo Head of Leadership Development with AIB will then take to the Conference stage to talk about the crucially important topic of Leadership in Business. In his role with AIB he leads the design and implementation of enterprise-wide leadership development initiatives. Pedro is passionate about creating more human, purpose led and customer-centric workplaces where HR plays a vital role in embedding a culture, values, talent practices, and organisational models, processes and systems to ensure authentic ‘customer delight’.

Following a short break to facilitate delegate networking Garry Moroney from Clavis Insight will offer delegates a unique perspective on the success of his business, founded Clavis Insight in 2008 and exited the business in late 2018 when he sold to Ascential for $119M. Clavis has its own technology which allows large FMCG and manufacturing companies to autonomously monitor their inventory. Garry is a serial entrepreneur, having previous founded another tech company which he sold in 2006 for $55M. Delegates will then have an opportunity to hear a review of key consumer trends delivered by Phelim O’ Leary and Cathy Glennon Co-Founder and Associate Director respectively of Behaviour and Attitudes.

During the afternoon session delegates will hear further business insight from leaders in their respective fields including Nicola Byrne, Founder of Cloud 90 and 11890 Directory Enquires and Alan Cox CEO of Core, Ireland’s largest marketing and communications group. The final topic covered on the day will focus on Automation and the Accountant and will be delivered by hugely experienced accountant and trainer Bob Semple.
