CPA Requirements & Returns

•   Will my CPD requirements change?

For the full year 2024 CPA member CPD requirements will remain the same as for previous years. 
Members in Practice: 75 Structured Hours including and 45 Unstructured Hours.
Members in Industry: 60 Structured Hours and 60 Unstructured Hours

(From the 1st January 2025 the CPD requirements for all members will be the Chartered Accountants Ireland requirements. More information on CPD requirements can be found here.)
 

•   How will I submit my 2024 CPD return?

There will be no change for submitting your 2024 CPD. Your annual CPD return will be due for submission on 1 January 2025. As with all previous years you will receive notification and detailed instructions prompting you to make your 2024 CPD return through your CPA portal. You will log into your CPA member profile through the CPA Ireland website.
 

•   How will my CPD be audited?

As mandated by IAASA, CPA Ireland will continue to conduct an annual audit of CPD in early autumn 2025. A random sample of 5% of members across Practice and Industry will be selected to submit evidence of their CPD for a specific year. 
 

•   Will I be able to view my past CPD records and returns on my profile?

Your past annual CPD records will be maintained by CPA/Chartered Accountants Ireland for the mandated 5 years.
 

Booking & Logging CPD Courses

•   How will I book CPD events?

From 1 September to 31 December 2024, the amalgamated organisation will provide an extensive CPD programme including webinars, in person events, self-paced learning options and Certificates & Diplomas. You can continue to book your Chartered Accountants Ireland/CPA events on the CPA Ireland website using your current CPA member number and password. Once the new IT systems are in place and access to the Chartered Accountants Ireland booking portal is available, you will receive notification, information and support in accessing it. For the time being, you may continue to access all your CPD needs through the CPA Ireland website. Please see options for booking CPD below:

Option 1: Continue to book CPD as normal
  • The CPA website will have the full listing of CPD courses therefore CPA members can continue to book their CPD courses through the CPA website & member portal.
  • These courses will be provided by Chartered Accountants Ireland, and you will receive access information via email shortly before the course start date.
  • Your CPD will be updated on your profile as with any CPD you book through the CPA website.
 Option 2: Book through the Chartered Accountants Ireland website
  • To avail of generous discounts on your CPD bookings, you are invited to purchase the Chartered Accountants Ireland Training Ticket.
  • Please be aware that in order to book using the training ticket you must book through the Chartered Accountants Ireland website.  

Please note Members will also have access to a variety of free CPD webinars, notice of which you will receive via email and through the CPA Ireland and Chartered Accountants Ireland Websites. 

 

•   What is a Training Ticket?

Training tickets are a simple, efficient, and cost-effective way to book CPD courses. By purchasing a training ticket, you prepay for a selected number of points, allowing you to receive courses at a substantially discounted rate. More information on Training Tickets can be found on the Chartered Accountants Ireland website here.

 

•   Can I still purchase AccountingCPD.net courses?

•   How will I receive information about upcoming CPD events?

You will continue to receive direct marketing through your registered email address. Please note, you will receive newsletters from Chartered Accountants Ireland from the 1st September.
 

•   How will I record my CPD attendance for the remainder of 2024?

You will continue to record your CPD on the CPA Ireland website, using your current login. Any courses you attend through Chartered Accountants Ireland/CPA will be updated on your account by a staff member of the organisation.
 

•   Will my CPD automatically update for CPA/Chartered Accountants Ireland attended courses?

Any courses you attend through Chartered Accountants Ireland/CPA will continue to be updated on your account by a staff member of the organisation.

You will continue to record details of any courses attended external to CPA/Chartered Accountants Ireland on your CPA Portal until further notice.


•   How will I record CPD attendance in 2025?

You will continue to record your CPD on the CPA Ireland website, with your current login. Any courses you attend through Chartered Accountants Ireland/CPA will be updated on your account by a staff member of the organisation. (TBC)

Once access to the Chartered Accountants Ireland portal is available, you will receive notification, information and support in accessing it.

If there is any delay with the transition to Chartered Accountants Ireland CPD portals, you will continue with recording CPD on your CPA portal. Please note there will be communications in advance of any changes. It is important to keep your contact details up to date on your member profile.
