• What designation can I use after 1st September?
Please find below full details on the use of designatory letters.
CPA
Members can continue to use their CPA designation, you are not required to make any changes.
FCPA
Members who have been in membership in CPA Ireland for 10+ years may use the designation FCPA. Fellowship is now automatic, you do not need to apply for it
ACA (Associate of Chartered Accountants Ireland)
On the 1st September 2024 all current CPA members, less than 10 years in membership, can use the designation ACA
FCA (Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland)
Under the Chartered Accountants Ireland bye laws, any member who has been in membership for 10 years will be automatically conferred with Fellowship (FCA) provided they meet the necessary requirements. This occurs on January 1st each year and all eligible members are automatically upgraded subject to the following:
Chartered Accountants Ireland Bye Law 8 states:
- 8.1.1 completes ten years of membership; and
- 8.1.2 satisfies all other requirements prescribed by the Council.
- 8.2 The Associate becomes a Fellow on the first day of January following satisfaction of the requirements in Byelaw 8.1
In addition, only fully active members who have paid their subscriptions in the previous year will have their designation updated.
Therefore any member of CPA Ireland that is 10+ years in membership will be upgraded to FCA on the 1st January 2025.
You do
NOT need to be an FCPA in order to be upgraded to an FCA.
