Designation

•   What designation can I use after 1st September?

Please find below full details on the use of designatory letters.

There are four designations that members can avail of:
  • CPA
  • FCPA
  • ACA
  • FCA

ACA (Associate of Chartered Accountants Ireland)
On the 1st September 2024 all current CPA members can use the designation ACA

FCA (Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland)
Under the Chartered Accountants Ireland bye laws, members are automatically conferred with Fellowship (FCA) 10 years post-qualification provided they meet the necessary requirements. This occurs on January 1st each year and all eligible members are automatically upgraded subject to the following:

Chartered Accountants Ireland Bye Law 8 states:
  • 8.1.1     completes ten years of membership; and
  • 8.1.2     satisfies all other requirements prescribed by the Council.
  • 8.2        The Associate becomes a Fellow on the first day of January following satisfaction of the requirements in Byelaw 8.1

In addition, only fully active members who have paid their subscriptions in the previous year will have their designation updated.

Therefore any member of CPA Ireland that is 10+ years qualified will be upgraded to FCA on the 1st January 2025.

You do NOT need to be an FCPA in order to be upgraded to an FCA.
